MACHU TRAVEL PERU IS READY FOR YOU!

Greetings from Peru!

Since these challenging and extraordinary times began, together with Machu Travel Peru we have worked hard preparing for the day when we can welcome you to Peru.

We would like to detail some different measures and actions that we are taking to ensure that when you arrive, you have the safest and most peaceful trip possible.

  • Along with the WTTC Safe Travels seal, we also have our suite of protocols to be ready for the "new normal" in travel. This document is subject to future change and will grow as new recommendations are made by health organizations and governments.
  • Although we have been flexible with our reservations, we have increased our flexibility allowing any changes you need. This includes making it easier to change dates for reasons related to COVID-19, among other things.
  • We are ready to guarantee a socially responsible and meaningful travel experience for you as well as for everyone you meet on your way.
  • We're focusing on creating new, high-quality travel experiences while keeping your distance and staying safe.

Our primary goal is to provide the best possible travel experience while in good health. We are confident that we will overcome this situation and emerge stronger than ever!

We look forward to welcoming you to South America soon and traveling with you in the new normal. But until that day comes, take care of yourself and keep everyone around you safe!

Sincerely,

Hedder Quispe Puente de la Vega, Founder, and President of Machu Travel Peru.

KEEPING YOU SAFE

We are committed to keeping up with this rapidly changing world to ensure that all our customers and team members have the safest and most enjoyable experience in South America.

In order to prepare, we have compiled a new set of protocols and security guidelines. These will be part of the active document and can be modified at any time as more information appears. Here are the basics:

GENERAL MEASURES
  • These apply to everyone involved in the trip, including our tour guides, drivers, and providers.
  • General measures include basic knowledge of disease prevention, including washing hands, wearing masks, avoiding crowds, and keeping some distance when around others. This also includes measures to do if you have symptoms.
STAFF MEASURES
  • In addition to the team members you meet during the journey, our behind-the-scenes staff will also take a series of safety measures.
  • Currently, our office workers are working from home, which makes social distancing easier. For any meeting, we currently use an online meeting platform to join the trend at the bottom of pajamas.
  • When our office does open, the same general measures will be taken, such as washing hands frequently, wearing masks, cleaning public areas regularly, and reducing office capacity.
ACCOMMODATION MEASURES
  • Hotels and other suppliers will be strictly supervised by the standards and must comply with official government guidelines and procedures. Some of the most obvious changes here will be during your stay and breakfast. Check-in and check-out will be completely contactless, in addition to paying for any other additional services; Breakfast at the hotel will be table service, not self-service or buffet style.
  • In addition, although the hotels we work with are always clean, you may notice that they will further improve hygiene standards, so that guests and staff are as safe and healthy as possible.
TRANSPORTATION MEASURES
  • When traveling, one of the most important parts is to move around safely. With COVID-19, safety and hygiene are our number one priority.
  • Any transportation supplier must take clear measures to mitigate any risks. This includes operating at 50% capacity. This will obviously grant much more space for those who travel.
  • And, although our drivers are friendly, they will keep their distance and greet travelers by nodding or waving instead of shaking hands. If they are needed during transportation, they will also know where the nearest medical centers are.
MACHU TRAVEL PERU MEASURES
  • Our guide will make your trip unusual and become some of the friendly, warmest, and knowledgeable people you meet.
  • Even if they may feel like family, our tour guide will make sure to keep a safe distance from them and greet them by waving instead of shaking hands.
  • The guide is also very proficient in first aid and will be able to help in any possible situation, such as possible COVID-19, discomfort caused by altitude sickness, or even superficial injuries.
  • The future is uncertain, although it is certain that travel will have a new normal. By following these guidelines and protocols, we can ensure that travelers stay as safe as possible while creating beautiful memories that can last a lifetime, thereby ensuring that new standards are met.

INCREASING FLEXIBILITY ON YOUR TRAVEL

From the beginning of this extraordinary situation, Machu Travel Peru has been committed to maintaining a vigilant and open attitude to provide guests with flexibility and safety.

Therefore, we have updated the booking terms related to the current situation, which will maximize flexibility.

When the World Health Organization announces the end of the pandemic or lifts restrictions affecting travel to South America, this set of terms will remain.

Our temporary terms apply to the services provided by Machu Travel Peru. The terms and conditions of our providers and partners and how to use these terms and conditions are still at the discretion of the said partners and providers (for example, trains, flights, cruises, etc.).

In order to make our guests more comfortable and at ease, Machu Travel Peru will provide the following revised terms and conditions for all services we retain in 2021:

  • New bookings only require a 50% down payment deposit.
  • The balance should be paid only 12 weeks before your travel date.
  • Any booking scheduled to start before January 05, 2021, may be postponed by 30 days to the date of 2021, and 100% of the booking value will be carried over to future bookings.
    1. External suppliers may charge a small fee and should keep it as low as possible.
    2. The price does increase from December 10th to January 5th every year, so the booking value may not increase during these dates.
  • Any bookings scheduled to start before December 31, 2021, will be canceled within the estimated time of 30 days, and Machu Travel Peru does not directly charge a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee due to external partners and suppliers will be kept to a minimum.

We have negotiated flexible terms with all our partners, so your travel advisor will work with you to develop an itinerary that meets the terms and conditions of your comfort and safety needs.

CONFIRMED TRAVEL RESERVATIONS DURING 2021

To accommodate the various travel restrictions imposed, we have revised the standard terms to allow guests to postpone their booked tours in 2021 to one year and retain 100% of the reservation value. If the guest chooses to cancel the reservation, our standard cancellation policy will apply.

We have communicated with all guests to keep them informed of government restrictions on travel.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Although Machu Travel Peru has flexibility in terms of future travel, travel insurance remains essential for those who travel after the pandemic restrictions are lifted. You will want to make sure to look for policies that allow "cancel for any reason".

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN CAN WE START TRAVELING AGAIN?

We as a company associated with CANATUR (National Chamber of Tourism of Peru) work to update all the information that the Peruvian State applies to current travel restrictions. We hope that by mid-year 2021 the COVID-19 situation is under control and the restrictions will be lifted. In this way, you can travel to our country. But there is no exact date yet. However, we are monitoring this situation and will update you at any time.

WHY USE A TRAVEL AGENCY AFTER COVID?

  • Compared with your own booking, the travel agency will provide you with more support before and during your trip.
  • We have local knowledge and experience that can maximize your journey while minimizing risks.
  • We have local connections and relationships to ensure that you are as safe as possible, including information on medical facilities in each area you visit.
  • We have also formulated strong policies and agreements that operators must comply with, and we pay close attention to these policies and agreements.
  • In addition, when you use an agent, we will do all the work related to reservations and changes to reservations. We can be flexible before and during your trip to deal with any situation that may arise.
  • Therefore, if you need to postpone or even cancel your reservation, you only need to contact one place (us), and not any number of hotels, trains, domestic flights, etc.

Using a travel agency, especially during these uncertain times, will make booking and travel smoother and safer.

IS THERE ANY PLACE SAFER THAN OTHER PLACES? WHY?

Due to social distancing and the way the virus spreads, you may be safer in sparsely populated and remote places (such as trekking or visiting more rural areas and lesser-known archaeological sites).

Having said that, cities are often where better medical facilities are located.

However, no matter where you visit, you need to make sure to wear a mask, maintain social distancing, and keep your hands clean and sanitized.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I NEED TO CANCEL FOR COVID-19 RELATED REASONS AFTER THE TRIP HAS STARTED?

If your travel is in progress and needs to be canceled due to COVID-19 related reasons, we will do everything possible to help-provide you with medical care and help you return home as soon as possible.

Doing so will incur additional costs because these services will be auxiliary, and our partners and providers (hotels, trains, flights, tours) will charge cancellation fees, especially at the last minute.

Therefore, you will need to purchase insurance that not only covers possible service losses, but also any medical services that you may need to get on the way.

WILL WE BE CHECKED BEFORE ENTERING ANY MONUMENTS OR ATTRACTIONS?

Yes, there will be a check when entering any monument or attraction.

Nothing, in particular, is said yet, but when you enter, you will find checks that may include temperature checks and spraying of disinfectant. Also, a mask may need to be used.

Once we have a more detailed understanding of the meaning of these checks, we will update them.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY TRIP GOES TO AN AFFECTED AREA?

We will monitor the status of each area in your itinerary and plan accordingly. The ideal plan is to modify the itinerary so that you do not enter the affected area.

If this is not possible, we will redouble our sanitation and distancing efforts, and ensure that you fully understand the situation, and ensure that you have any equipment you may need, such as masks, hand sanitizer, etc.

What will be the measures to visit the archaeological sites such as Machu Picchu, Sacsayhuaman, etc.?

So far, these measures will include temperature checks, social isolation, preventive signage, and limits on the number of people allowed at any given archaeological site.

IF SOMEONE IN MY TEAM IS AFFECTED BY COVID-19, WILL THE GUIDE BE TRAINED IN FIRST AID?

Yes, our guide has received extensive training in first aid, including precautions and COVID-19 handling methods.

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW BEFORE CRUISING IN SOUTH AMERICA?

At this time, it is mainly about getting familiar with the measures, rules, and regulations of the boat, and in that matter, we can help you.

WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN FOR ACCOMMODATION OR CRUISE PLANS THAT OFFER GROUP TRAVEL?

Group travel is currently suspended until future notice. Once group services are available, to maintain security, the number of these services will be greatly reduced.

More hygiene and sanitation procedures will also be developed to ensure that all excursions are as safe as possible.

Currently, boarding programs and cruises are operating at 50% capacity to facilitate social distancing.

DO I NEED TO WEAR MASKS, GLOVES, ETC. DURING TRAVEL?

Yes, masks are currently required in all public areas. The gloves are optional.

IF WE DO HAVE COVID-19, WHAT KIND OF MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

Larger cities will have more modern healthcare facilities. While rural areas will have smaller clinics, and these clinics may have more limited resources.

However, no matter where you travel, our guide will be proficient in first aid, and we will provide you with the most suitable medical services as soon as possible.

DO WE NEED TO BE TESTED FOR COVID-19, OR TO SHOW THAT WE HAVE RECOVERED OR HAVE RECENTLY BEEN TESTED?

Yes, you need to be tested for COVID-19 recently to prove that you are not infectious (recovered or negative).

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM FOUND TO HAVE COVID (ASYMPTOMATIC) WHILE TRAVELING IN THE COUNTRY?

We will need to take appropriate measures prescribed by the Ministry of Health of each country, including mandatory quarantine. We also need to inform the Ministry of Health of your COVID positive status.

WILL THERE BE ANY RELAXATION PROCEDURES, SUCH AS WEARING A MASK WHEN HIKING?

As of now, masks must be used in all public places (including hiking). We will comply with all regulations to ensure that you and our guides, porters, etc. are as safe as possible.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT MEASURES FOR ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS HORSE RIDING, HIKING, MOUNTAIN BIKING, ETC.?

Depending on the activity, different measures may need to be taken. Before you arrive in South America, we will make sure to communicate the content of these measures.

HOW DOES THE PANDEMIC AFFECT TRAVEL COSTS?

It is not clear that this will be affected by many factors. Economic instability may lower prices, but increased costs due to increased sanitation measures may cause prices to rise.

We are doing everything we can to keep the price low, although it remains to be seen where the price will be set.

IF THERE IS ANOTHER LOCK, IS IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO GET INTO TROUBLE WHILE TRAVELING?

Although this is difficult to determine, we are prepared for this situation due to our experience when we first implemented the lockdown in March.

You can be sure that your health and safety is our top priority, so we will do our best to ensure that you are as safe as possible.
