The Hotel “Sonesta Posada del Inca Yucay” is a beautiful place to rest. Located in the picturesque Sacred Valley between Ollantaytambo and Pisac at 9000 feet, the Sonesta Hotel is a complete village with its own church inside, the quiet town of Yucay. Visitors enter the hotel through what was once the Monastery of Santa Catalina de Sena which dates from the 17th century every room has a plaque commemorating the nun who lived there, in the next place one of several centered around water fountains decorated with colorful flowers, guests receive a cup of hot chocolate welcome against the altitude sickness.
The newly remodeled hotel now offers improved facilities located in the colonial style surrounded by beautiful gardens. The rooms have locks and keys of old iron doors, beds and headboards quilts of stone and wood, and the bathrooms have designer sinks. The rooms retain an aspect of the cloister that some may perceive as poor and others accept as part of the environment. This is a place to relax, enjoy the incredible scenery, and walk around the small town that has not been ruined by commercialism; facilities are designed for guests to talk with vendors of crafts, read in the manicured gardens, have a drink around the central hearth in the “Wayra Wasi” Bar listening Andean live music, and enjoy the Spa.
Rooms at Sonesta Posada del Inca Yucay combine contemporary accommodation with rustic decorative features. Each room comes with a TV set and private bathrooms with a bathtub, some rooms come with a large flat-screen TV and a lounge area; guests can enjoy a menu of Andean specialties with a modern twist at the “House Inkafé” Restaurant, the restaurant has an outdoor terrace overlooking a garden with barbecue.
