The trip was different from what we were expecting, in a great way. Machu Travel Peru organized a few days in Lima, next the rain forest (Puerto Maldonado), then Cusco. Their tour guides in the rain forest and Cusco were exceptional and so much knowledge about their subjects. The visit to Cusco was arranged to ensure we were acclimatized and no altitude problems. So much history of pre-Inca, Inca, and Spanish occupations. An Inca food science farm. Salt flats seeded by a spring at 13,000 feet. A town where most houses were built in three layers- Pre Inca walks, Inca walks, and more recent- all creating one building. Machu Pichu and more. So much to see. Terrific food. Lots of walking - steps well exceeding the 10,000 daily ( typically at least double).
