Visit in: February 2024
Machu Travel Peru (MTP) organized our bespoke 2 week tour of Peru for travel in February 2024. I can honestly say that they did an expert job and I highly recommend their services. All the arrangements went without a hitch, including some tricky baggage exchanges.
Of course, your tour is only as good as the folks you spend your time with - the guides and drivers. Machu Travel Peru's contracted guides and drivers were EXCELLENT! We spent multiple days with Andrea touring from Arequipa. She had an excellent driver but unfortunately I have forgotten his name. Andrea was delightful and went out of her way to make sure we saw everything we were interested in. It was hard to say goodbye to her when we reached Puno. Cris and his driver, Mr. Roger, were with us for multiple days in and around Cusco. What a great pair they were, getting us to some hidden corners of the Highlands where even they hadn't been! Both guides and drivers were very caring. My husband and I are elderly and our limitations were carefully taken into consideration. In Lima we took a foodie tour with Carlos - fabulous! And we took a city tour with Al - also excellent. MTP handled everything - hotels, most meals, transfers, drivers, guides, trains - taking all of the anxiety out of the trip allowing us to relax and enjoy everything. We knew we would be met, luggage handled, checked in, picked up on time etc. etc. etc. All the hundreds of little details were in place thanks to MTP.
Regarding hotels - we can highly recommend the Belmond Hotels. If it is in your budget, do spend a night at their Sanctuary Lodge at the entrance to Machu Picchu - it is a dream. The Belmond Las Casitas hotel at Colca Canyon is charming. The Inkaterra hotels are also wonderful. We stayed at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba and Inkaterra La Casona in Cusco, housed in a magnificent, small colonial home. We also spent a couple of nights in the JW Marriott in Cusco. This is an excellent choice if you want a larger hotel (also in a colonial building) with more of the usual hotel services. In Arequipa we opted for Cirqa which was (even in their small room) just lovely. We cannot say enough about the staffs in each of these properties. They were very kind, very professional, and very welcoming. Nothing was too much for any of them.
Finally, the food in Peru is amazing. Not once did we have anything short of a delicious and memorable meal.
Peru is a cultural gem and we are so pleased that we visited and that MTP facilitated that visit.
Memorable trips generate grateful hearts and we are lucky to have received reviews from satisfied customers telling us about their wonderful experiences in their Peru journeys thanks to our advice, support, and services.
